1240.12 – Four Men, Two Boys, and a Boat

Four men and two boys are to cross a wide river in a small rowboat that will hold only one man or both boys. Make a plan for all to cross and explain it clearly.

Solution

Send both boys first. Then a single boy rows back and next a man crosses. The second boy rows back. Repeat! Both boys cross, one comes back, a man crosses and the other boy rows back. And so on. The boat makes 17 crossings.
