1290.15 – CSD student body

There are 168 high school students in the high school division of the California School for the Deaf which has a terrific football team. Some are left-handed and some are right handed (we'll assume that nobody is ambidextrous). If 90 students are boys, 126 students are right-handed, and there are 24 left-handed girls, how many right-handed boys are there?

Solution

If there are 90 boys, then there are 78 girls. If 24 girls are left-handed, then 54 girls are right-handed. So there are 126 – 54 = 72 right-handed boys.
