1540.51 – Electric Bill Printing

At the Eclectic Electric Corporation, two computers each produce 48,000 electric bills in one day. One computer prints bills at the rate of 9600 per hour and the other at the rate at a rate of 7800 per hour. When the faster computer finishes its run, how many bills does the slower computer still have to print?

Solution

It takes the fast computer 5 hours to print 48,000 bills. At the end of 5 hours, the slow computer will have printed 39,000 bills, leaving it with 9,000 more to do. The slow computer will run another 1.154 hours to complete its work. (Bonus question: this is an hour and how many minutes?)
