2070.12 – Formula for Apple Fritters

It costs mm dollars to buy xx apple fritters. Write a formula for calculating nn, the cost of yy apple fritters in dollars.

Solution

If xx apple fritters cost mm dollars, then one apple fritter costs mx\frac{m}{x} dollars. Since the price per apple fritter is known, the cost of any number of apple fritters may be calculated by multiplying mx\frac{m}{x} by the desired number of apple fritters. Therefore, it follows that n=y×mxn=y×\frac{m}{x}.
